Obituary of Roy Mack Tillis ....Gainesville Florida ... Roy Mack Tillis , 96, of Gainesville died Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005 in North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Starke, Fl. January 2, 1909, Mr. Tillis moved to Gainesville in 1928. he was an employee of the Alachua County School Board for 34 years, where he started driving a school bus at the age of 14. Mr. Tillis was a World War II Army veteran and a Mason. For the majority of his adult life , Mr. Tillis was a Baptist and very active in his church. Mr. Tillis is survived by his second wife edith, a daughter Mary Ann Riley of Gainesville, Fla. , a son Richard O. Tillis of Lake Butler, Fl. , eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Mr. Tillis was preceded in death by his first wife Bessie and his eldest son Malcolm. Memorial Services for Mr. Tillis will be held Friday March 18, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Milam Funeral and Cremation services at 311 S. Main Street, Gainesville. The family will recieve friends between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm , Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the same location. Interment will follow Fridays Memorial services at Forest Meadows East, East Hawthorne Rd., Gainesville.
