Harry L. Tillis, 68, a retired State Road dept. mechanic, of Rt. 2 Gainesville, Died Friday in the Veterans Hospital at Lake City after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be at 2p.m. Tuesday at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.B. Keyes officiating. Burial will follow at Kingsley Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers, who are to meet at the chapel at 1;45pm will be Bill Van Popering, Tommy Thomas, Charlie Layfield, Clark Watson, Ray Mooneyham, and Almon Self. Mr. Tillis was born July 11, 1891, in Hampton and moved to Alachua County in his early childhood. He was the son of the late George C. Tillis and of Winnie Woodard Tillis who survives in Gainesville. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church and a veteran of World War 1. Other survivors are his wife, Eunice, Gainesville; five children, Mrs. Leland Crouch, Anaheim,, Calif; Mrs. Hebron Self, Gainesville; George W. and Samuel, both of Jacksonville; and John E. of Houston, Tex; three brothers, Roy M. and B.T. of Gainesville; and A.C. of Johnson, Fla; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Morgan, Jacksonville; and Mrs Lowell Reynolds, Orlando; and 16 grandchildren. The Gainesville Sun, August 2, 1959, Page 2, Column 6
