Bio
The funeral for John Buchta, 91, of Mandan, formerly of Leeds, was held Sat. at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds Interment was in the church cemetery. He died Aug. 16, 1993 at MedCenter One in Bismarck. Fr. John Sutton was celebrant. Music was by Tammy Meyer. Pallbearers were Steven Quiggle, Mark Quiggle, Bob Selland, Dave Nelson, Joe Selensky & Lenny Foss. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. John Buchta was born July 28, 1902 in Olds, Alberta to Andrew & Mary Parolek Buchta. The family moved to Beaver Township of Benson County in 1904. He attended school there. He married Alice Meyer June 28, 1932 in Leeds. They farmed in the Harlow & Leeds areas. She died Feb. 27, 1970. He retired & moved to Mandan. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Donna) Quiggle of Moorhead, Minn. & JoAnn Haupt of Bismarck; 3 sons, Sidney & Sigrud, both of Hillsboro, Ore. & Jay of San Ramon, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Medhus of Leeds; a brother, Victor of Rugby; & a special friend, Vlasta Wright of Mandan. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Rosa Lunell, Lilly Wertz, Emma McElligot, Irene Anderson & Grace Lembke; & 2 brothers, Frank & Raymond.
