Bio

The funeral for Jay C. Buchta, 50, of Hillsboro, Ore., formerly of Leeds, was held Fri. at 11 a.m. at Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Interment will be in the spring at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, Leeds. He died Jan. 21, 1997 in Hillsboro. Jay Clarence Buchta was born Jan. 3, 1947 in Maddock to John & Alice Meyer Buchta. He was raised at Leeds & graduated from Leeds High School. In 1968 he moved to Washington & worked for several years. He then moved to the Bay area of California where he worked as a mechanic for several different auto dealerships. Later he operated his own automotive repair shop for 15 years in Livermore, Calif. He sold his business in 1994 & moved to Hillsboro, Ore. He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Hillsboro. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited & the National Rifle Assn. He was an avid hunter, race car enthusiast & enjoyed collecting antiques. Survivors include 2 sisters, Donna Quiggle of Moorhead, Minn. & JoAnne Haupt of Bismarck; & 2 brothers, Sidney & Sigrud Buchta, both of Hillsboro, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents.
