Bio

Johnnie Lee Hajek, 88, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 4 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2016,in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery of Ennis. Johnnie was born in Alma, Texas, to the late John F. and Albina (Lekar) Hajek. He grew up in Ennis and attended Ennis High School. On March 31, 1948, he married Mary Ann Jakubik and they made their home in Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. Johnnie worked as a butcher for 29 years for Liska Meat Market. He purchased the Hajek’s Grocery Store which he owned and operated for over 29 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis, SPJST, Knights of Columbus where he served as the Grand Knight, he also served as Vice-President and President of the Polka Festival Committee. He enjoyed fishing, domino’s and cards. He was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Hajek; and a great-granddaughter, Hazel. Surviviors include his wife of over 68 years, Mary Ann Hajek; son, Dennis Ray Hajek and wife, Kim; daughters, Deborah Ann Maki and husband, David, and Cynthia Marie Marshall and husband, Garland; four grandchildren: 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Lydia Mensik; other relatives and many friends.
