Bio
Bill was born on May 23, 1939 in Kaufman to William A. Tackett, Sr and Virginia Maude Spencer Tackett. He was preceded in death by his brother, Pete Tackett of Terrell. Bill married Linda May Harper on July 3, 1965 at the First Methodist Church in Kemp. Bill graduated high school from Kaufman High School in 1958 and entered the United States Navy in 1960 where he was honorably discharged in 1963. He then went to work at Kaufman County Electric as a lineman and safety coordinator until he retired in 1998, after 35 years of service. Following retirement he went to work at J&L Utility Company in Edgewood, Texas, where he worked for an additional 13 years. Bill was active in the community where he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3905. He also served on the Kaufman County Jr. Livestock Show Board for numerous years where he spent countless hours volunteering his time for the youth and livestock community. The Tackett family are members of the Texas Limousin Association. He also coached for many years in the Kaufman Youth Sports baseball and football leagues. Bill was a member of the United States Jaycees Foundation. Mr. Tackett is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Linda Tackett of Kaufman and their four children – Ron Tackett and wife Debbie of Blackwell, Texas. Wayne Tackett and wife Shelley of Kemp, Texas. Emily Reynolds and husband Jeff of Kaufman, Texas. Aaron Tackett and wife Heather of Iola, Texas. He is the very proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren. Myles, Jon, Hannah, Reese, Brooke, Eli, Wyatt, Emma and Katie. Bill has a sister, Lillian Brock of Arlington and two sister-in-laws, Norma Tackett of Terrell, Texas and Nelda Harper Wagoner of Omaha, Nebraska. He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. As an avid rancher Bill loved animals and time outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his cattle and traveling to countless cattle shows throughout Texas. He was a hard worker who was always ready to serve. As he would tell you – "Always do your best and the Angels in heaven can do no more".
