Bio

Mary Cecile Green, 68, of West, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as Celebrant, assisted by the Rev. Ann Hitt. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mary was born in West, Texas, to the late John and Leona (Polasek) Nemecek. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School in 1956 and Sam Houston State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Education degree. On Aug. 9, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jim Greene in West. Mary taught at several schools in the area including Mountainview Elementary, Lacy-Lakeview Elementary and Elm Mott. She also was manager and co-owner of Nemecek Bros. Meat market for 12 years. Mary had a love for animals and her livestock and competed in barrel racing for many years. She won the National State Finals in barrel racing in the 50 and over age division, and then at age 61, Mary also won the barrel racing competition at The World Paint Horse Show. She was a member of the West Longhorn Club, where she was one of the first Rodeo Sweethearts and served as rodeo secretary for many years; Texas Senior Rodeo Association of Texas, where she also served as secretary for many years, and a board member of the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Association, where she served as livestock secretary. Mary was an avid follower of the Lady Bear Basketball Team and was a season ticket holder. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Survivors include her beloved husband of 47 years, Jim Greene, of West; son, Cliff Greene, of Palestine; granddaughter, Autumn, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; uncle, Raymond Nemecek, of West; aunt, Adele Nemecek, of West; nephews, Sean Greene, of Rosenburg and Chantz Greene and his wife, Jodie, of Rock Springs; sister-in-law, Paulette Greene, of Rosenburg; her horse, R B's Dude; Boston Terrier Bulldog, Rocky; and several other cousins, relatives and friends.
