obituary from Mercer Funeral Home : David C. Ross, 75, Valley Falls, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton. He was born April 1, 1940, at Lucas, TX, the son of Douglas Cleveland “Pike” and Ruth Irene Deal Ross. He graduated from Wylie High School, Wylie, TX, in 1958. He served in the US Army from 1958-1963, and was stationed in South Korea. David worked at the Sherwin-Williams Paint Plant in Garland, TX, and Gaines Foods, Pet Food Division, in Topeka. He was an electrician at the Lansing Correctional Facility when he retired in 2004. He loved to hunt, fish, take care of his farms, collect coins, and help his wife, Donna, with her cookie jar collection. He married Donna Sue Lederer, Jan. 12, 1962, at Wylie, TX. She died April 13, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bobby and Danny Ross. His family included 10 half brothers and sisters. ...The Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Valley Falls Cemetery with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Jackson County Friends of Hospice, and sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
