News-Herald, The (Willoughby, OH) - Tuesday, January 30, 2001 Services for Benjamin W. McCashland, Ph.D., 79, of Willoughby, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel at Nason Center of Breckenridge Village, 36855 Ridge Road, Willoughby. Dr. McCashland died Jan. 26, 2001, at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby. Born May 7, 1921, in Geneva, Neb., he has lived in Willoughby for the past five years. Dr. McCashland was professor of chemistry at Moorhead State University and at the University of Nebraska, where he also served as an Assistant Graduate Dean. He was the Dean of Graduate Studies for 13 years, retiring in 1983. While living in Lincoln, Nebraska, he worked as a registered pharmacist. He authored several college textbooks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. While in the Army he held the rank of captain and also received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Wickliffe Presbyterian Church. Dr. McCashland enjoyed painting and was a member of the Northern Artist of Bemidji, Minn. Survivors are his son, William L. McCashland; daughters, Jean (Gene Wisness) and Bobbie (Rick) Gauthier; grandchildren, Benjamin S. (Julie Ann) McCashland, Tracy (Matt) Hloros, Wil McCashland, Adam (Helene) Tetz, Amanda (David) Davidson, Jasmine Ahina and Zachary Coverdell; and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by many friends and loved ones. His wife, Glenrose, died in 1988. His son, William L. McCashland, died in 1973. His parents, Ivan L. and Lucia McCashland, and step-mother, Lorine McCashland, are also deceased. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday. The Rev. William Gross will officiate at services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, Minn.
