Porter Rites - Held at Chapel Funeral services for Lyda A. Porter of Ord were held on Tuesday, September 23, 1980 at 10 a.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel- with Rev. Curtis Trenhaile officiating. Organ selections were played by Mrs. Shirley Karre. Burial was in the Ord City cemetery with Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Lyda Ann Porter was born on November 13, 1883 in Aledo, Illinois, to William and Mary Neff Summers and died on September 21, 1980 at Ord, Nebraska at the age of 96. Lyda and her family moved to Holyoke, Colorado when she was a small child. They lived on the family homestead and Lyda attended a country grade school near Holyoke. The family moved to the Vinton area in Valley County, Nebraska, in 1900. Lyda was married to Charles W. Porter on January 26, 1909 at Ord. After they were married they moved to a farm in the Vinton area where they farmed until 1940. They then moved to Byron, Illinois where they farmed until 1942 when they returned to Ord. Her. husband, Charles, died in 1967. Lyda moved to Parkview Village in 1968; staying there until she moved into the Valley County Nursing Home in 1975, where she spent the remainder of her life. Lyda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ord. Survivors include three daughters, Beulah Porter of Englewood, CO, Glea Romans of Elwood, and Lila Naeve of Elyria; one son, Verne Porter of Littleton, CO; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and one brother, Waverly Summers and his wife, Lillian of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Harold, an infant granddaughter, and three brothers The Ord Quiz - Thur, Sep 25 1980, Pg 8, Col 5
