Dr. Billy D. Walls Oct. 15, 1924 - Aug. 15, 2006 Logan Herald-Observer, Logan, IA 51546 Woodbine Twiner, Woodbine, IA 51579 08/23/2006 Dr. Billy D. Walls, 81, passed away Aug. 15, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley with Pastor Bob Dagit and Evangelist John Lizer officiating. Organist was Genelle Riesland and vocalist Brenda Marshall. Selections were "In the Garden," and "How Great Thou Art." Casket bearers were Robert Walls, Dr. Jeffrey Walls, Randy Jensen, Alex Walls, Dr. Gary Walls and Matt Earlywine. Honorary casket bearers were Bud Busing, George Walls, Ronnie Birdsall, Larry Jensen, Chuck Adair, Gary Smith, Arlyn Anderson and Joe Walls. Final resting place was Rose Hill Memorial Garden in Missouri Valley. Military honors were conducted by Julius F. Muller American Legion Post #337. Billy was born Oct. 15, 1924 in Missouri Valley to Frank and Iva Williams Walls. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1942 and entered the United States Air Force in October of that same year. Billy received his pilots wings in March, 1944. He was an advanced trainer instructor at Williams Field in Chandler, Ariz. While there, he met Cleora Peterson and they were married Dec. 24, 1944 at Thatcher, Ariz. celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2004. Billy became a B17 pilot and B29 airplane commander. He was discharged from the service in 1946. After serving his country, he attended Arizona State University for pre-med and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Mo. in June of 1951. Billy practiced medicine in Mondamin for 38 years, retiring from practice in 1990. After retirement, he became a physician with the U. S. Amateur Boxing Association, doing extensive traveling in Europe. Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, tennis, was a baseball coach for little league. He and Cleo had spent the winter months in Arizona since 1990. Billy was preceded in death by sister Iola Walker. Survivors include his loving wife Cleora; three sons and daughters-in-law Robert D. and Debi Walls of San Clemente, Calif., Dr. Gary and Chris Walls of Fallbrook, Calif., and Dr. Jeffrey and Lisa Walls of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; sisters Trulis Richardson, Milwaukie, Ore., and Ronnie Jensen, Missouri Valley; one brother James Walls of Smyrna, Tenn.
