Mary Magdalene Lenager (or Leonard) Huey was born in Virginia, now West Virginia to unknown parents. Mary married John Huey on 16 September 1838 in Lawrence County, Ohio. The ceremony was performed by Richard W Price, Justice of the Peace. In 1840 John and Mary were living in Elizabeth, Lawrence County. Included in the household was one female under 5 (Sarah Jane). In 1850 Mary and John were residing in Washington, Lawrence. John's occupation was Blacksmith. The family had grown to include 7 children. The family was still in Washington Township in 1860 and John was still a blacksmith. The Hueys had a dozen children. In 1870 John and Mary were living in Oak Hill, Jackson County, Ohio. John again listed his occupation as Blacksmith. Two more children were added to the family and five children remained at home. By 1880 the family had moved to Madison Township where John was a blacksmith and three children remained at home. John died in 1891 and Mary was reported as a widow and head of household living in Wellston. She was the mother of 14 children, 8 of whom were living.
