William M Huey was the son of John Huey and Mary Magdalene Lenager or Leonard who were married September 16, 1838 in Lawrence County, Ohio William was born in Lawrence County about 1841 and was one of 14 children. In 1860 the family lived in Washington Township in Lawrence County where his father was a blacksmith and William was an agricultural laborer. William served during the Civil War as a Private. He enlisted in The Ohio 5th Light Artillery Battery on September 16, 1861. He was mustered out on September 27, 1864 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The 5th Battery saw action at Shiloh, Tennessee; Corinth, Mississippi; Vicksburg, Mississippi and Little Rock, Arkansas among others. It is likely that William died about 1881 as his mother (Mary M Huey) filed for his pension on June 30th of that year. (Bio courtesy of Jan Summers)
