Bio

Arthur John Hoffbauer, 91, of Brainard, died April 24, 2014. He was born August 17, 1922, on the family farm southwest of Brainard, Nebraska, the son of Jacob and Rose (Dobesh) Hoffbauer. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in the Brainard area. Art enlisted in to the United States Coast Guard December 7, 1942, where he served on the USS LST #69. It was sunk on May 21, 1944. Art was honorably discharged on March 25, 1946. Art married Virginia Marie Hotovy June 3, 1947, at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, NE. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Arthur W. Jr., Cheryl, Allen, Deb, Brenda, Bruce, Duane. Art farmed the family place until 1982, he also worked at Goodyear for many years until he retired in 1987. He never really retired because he was always busy helping family and friends whenever the need arose. Art and Virginia enjoyed dancing in their younger years and he loved reading the newspaper and keeping up with current events. Art served on the East Butler School Board for two terms. He was a life member of the American Legion Rejda Post #273 in Brainard and always helped with Memorial Day events. Art was a member of the United Rubber Union and a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Art was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, Virginia December 22, 2012: daughter, Cheryl Underwood March 12, 2012: four siblings, Louise Tesina, Adeline Krska, Richard Hoffbauer, Christine Denney. Survivors who will cherish Arthur's memory include: his children and their spouses, Arthur W., Jr. and Joan Hoffbauer, Allen and Karen Hoffbauer, Deb and Greg Novacek, Brenda Grgurich, Bruce Hoffbauer, Duane and Shirley Hoffbauer; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; brother, Irving Hoffbauer; and a sister, Marcy Janak. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 28, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Burial in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Brainard.
