Bio

GREELEY — Lucille E. Hermsmeyer, 94, of Greeley, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at the Greeley Care Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at the Chalk Hills Community Church. The Rev. Jeremiah Knopp will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Lucille was born Jan. 3, 1922, in the Wallace Creek area to Elmer and Elsie (Meyer) Sautter. She was the oldest of five children. As a child, her family lived in several communities. She graduated from the Scotia Consolidated School in 1940. At the age of 18 she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. After graduation Lucille worked in 25 different homes performing various duties. On April 10, 1945, she married Harry Hermsmeyer at her parents’ home in rural Scotia. After they married, Lucille worked side-by-side with her husband on their dairy farm. She also cooked at the Fish Creek grade school, raised chickens, and sold eggs and cream to the local creamery. Lucille supported Harry in his lay ministry and also ministered herself by singing at church and leading her grandchildren in songs at the care home. They retired from the dairy in 1986. In 1997 they moved to Greeley. They thoroughly enjoyed visiting at the local coffee shop, brightening the residents day at the care home and loving on their grandkids (their greatest joy). She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Hermsmeyer of Alliance and Duane (Christie) Hermsmeyer of Scotia; daughter and son-in-law, Darla (Jim) Rasmussen of Valentine; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren who adored her and her spunk as she left them a legacy of faith and love; a sister and brother-in-law, Lauradel (Duane) Carson of Ord; and one sister-in-law, Faith Sautter of Grand Island. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; one grandson, Josh Hermsmeyer; three brothers, Dean, Kenneth, and Gilbert Sautter; and three sisters-in-law, Clara and Ella Hermsmeyer and Nina Sautter.
