Kasper, Edmund W. Longtime Schulenburg Merchant Succumbs Edmund W. Kasper, 77, owner of Kasper's department store in Schulenburg for more than 34 years, died June 28 in Youens Memorial Hospital, ending a two-year illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 30, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Schulenburg, with Msgr. Julius Petru of New Taiton officiating, assisted by Rev. Benton Thurmond and Rev. Emil Vinklarek. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery here. Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Heger, Jonathan Kalich, Gilbert Kutac, Johnnie Kasper, Louis Pavlas and Nathaniel Peschke. Members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus served as honor guard and were honorary pallbearers. Kasper was born at Weimar on Dec. 15, 1905, a son of Joseph and Philomena Kasper. He married Grace Krenek on Oct. 19, 1944, at Schulenburg. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Third and Fourth Degrees, the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce and the Schulenburg Industrial Foundation. He received the "Pro Eclesia Et Pontifice" award in 1957. His wife survives him, along with a daughter and son-in-law, Molly and James Heger of Weimar; two grandchildren, Jimmy and Melanie Heger of Weimar; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Anders of Weimar, Mrs. Mary Wanja of Columbus, and Mrs. Martha Beck of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
