George William Bengston, Jr., 92, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Ravenwood Specialty Care following a brief illness. He was born May 9, 1923 in Waterloo the son of George W. and Hazel (Peverill) Bengston, Sr. He attended Waterloo West High School. He married Beverly Close on January 5, 1948 in Waterloo, she preceded him in death on April 10, 2001. He married Royal "Maxine" Freeland on June 25, 2005 in Waterloo. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940-1941 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 during WWII. He worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing for 12 years and worked in the Stock Room at Viking Pump for 8 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 and attended St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Washburn. He enjoyed bowling and his Maple Lanes bowling family. Preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Beverly; one son, Gerald Bengston; one grandson, Michael Bengston; a great granddaughter, Jersey Lutgen and three sisters, Arlene Green, Margaret Corwin and her twin sister, Alice Elliott. Services, Mass of Christian burial: will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.Cemetery Entombment in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Waterloo with Military Rites conducted by the Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Detail.
