son of George W. and Beverly (Close) Bengston U.S. Army veteran Gerald L. “Jerry” Bengston, 62, of Lutz, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, August 17 at Lakeside Oaks Care Center, Dunedion, Fla. He was born June 26, 1953 in Waterloo, son of George W. and Beverly Close Bengston, Jr. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include five sons, Phillip (Arlene) Bengston of Ariz., Dustin Bengston and Cory (Tracie) Bengston, all of LaPorte City, Cameron Bengston of Brunswick, Ga. and Gregory Kirby of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; two daughters, Sabrina Piper of LaPorte City and Amanda Bengston of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; eight grandchildren; his father and step-mother, George and Maxine Bengston, Jr. of Waterloo; two brothers, Ronald (Linda) and William (Cindy) all of Waterloo and a sister, Karen (Bob) Demuth of Gilbertville. Preceded in death by his mother and a son, Michael Bengston. Services will be 10 am Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the funeral home and for an hour before services.
