Bio

Sarah Anne Hammontree, dau of Hugh and Rachel Hammontree, first married Gabriel Alonzo Caskey about 1850 and had son, Thomas L. Caskey, born 1852. Gabriel Alonzo enlisted into the LA 12th Inf. Reg., Co. B, on 8-31-1861 with Marcus DeLafayette Spurlock and William Green Spurlock. George Marion Spurlock would soon follow his brothers into the same unit. Sarah Jane's sister, Sherreldia Jane Hammontree Owens' daughter, Missouri Ann Owens, was the wife of Marcus D. Spurlock. Gabriel Alonzo Caskey was killed in Oct. 1861 and is cited as being buried in old Arcadia Cemetery, Arcadia, Bienville Parish, in an unmarked grave. Several other CSA soldiers of the "Arcadia Invincibles" are buried in this cemetery. Three other children were born to Sarah J. and Gabriel Alonzo. Sarah Jane married Robert S. Tyler on June 29,1869, lived in Claiborne Parish until late 1890s, had two children in this marriage, moved to Chestnut and died after 1910. Her husband, Robert S. Tyler is also buried here; he also served in the LA 12th Inf. Regt., Co. B. Robert S. and Sarah Anne Tyler are listed in the 1910 Census for Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Death date of 1907 on gravestone is incorrect for Sarah Anne. Her mother and father are also buried in unmarked graves in the old section of Arcadia Cemetery. 3 x great-grandmother of sponsor
