Son of John Hammontree and Sarah Hawkins; 1850 census as Hamintree; b. abt 1802 - d. abt 1866; grave unmarked in old section; wife, Rachel, buried in same cemetery, grave unmarked. Had 10 children, including Sherreldia Jane who married Houston T. Owens; both buried at Hurricane Cemetery, Hurricane, Claiborne Parish. Hugh Hammontree is the 3-great-grandfather of Foster LaVaughn Spurlock of Galveston, TX., thru his daughter, Sherreldia Jane Owens, her daughter, Missouri Ann Owens who married Marcus DeLafayette Spurlock. Marcus' son, Columbus D. Spurlock, married Selma Johnson, and had Foster's father, Floyd Earl Spurlock. 4x great-grandfather of sponsor
