Bio

LeRoy F. Spieker, 85 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. LeRoy was born November 22, 1930 in Petersburg, Nebraska to Fred W. and Louise (Friedman) Spieker. He lived at Petersburg and entered the US Army and served during the Korean War from November 13, 1951 to October 27, 1953. He returned to Petersburg and farmed and worked with John Deere Tractors. LeRoy married Elaine Hilger October 2, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, Nebraska. Elaine preceded him in death on February 20, 2013. They lived in Petersburg from 1954 until 1962 and then moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska and Randolph, Nebraska before settling in Fremont in 1975. He was employed by Vigortone Products and also worked for Ration Maker Products of Laurens, Iowa, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed taking a piece of junk and turning it into a workable item. He also helped his children with many of their home improvements. He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Knights of Columbus, former member of the Randolph VFW/American Legion and became a Deacon of the Catholic Church in 1979. He is survived by sons, Dan(Susan)Spieker of Malcolm, Nebraska, John(Kim)Spieker of St. Paul, Minnesota, Paul(Susan)Spieker of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, Tom(Michelle)Spieker of Dana Point, California, Steve(Brenda)Spieker of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pat(Angela)Spieker of Maplewood, Minnesota; daughters, Sally(Jeff)Slaughter of Maplewood, Minnesota, Janet Spieker of Clearwater, Florida, Doris(Lyle)Schueth of Lincoln, Mary Spieker of Fremont and Lynn(Art) Weiland of Garland, Nebraska; brothers, Robert(Laura)Spieker of Brunswick, Nebraska and Fred Spieker of Albion, Nebraska; sisters, Rosemund Klein of Petersburg, Florence Luettel of Albion, and Malinda Buelt of Elgin; and nineteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; three brothers and two sisters. Funeral Mass will be 12:00 P.M., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic in Fremont. The Rev. Father David Belt will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont." Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont, Nebraska.
