Bio

Lona Yvonne Copeland experienced God's promise when she woke up in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved Adrian on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015. She was born Lona Yvonne Ivy on Nov. 30, 1929, in Fairfield, Texas, to Maggie Lillian Orand Ivy and Cyrus David Ivy. She married Adrian Copeland on Feb. 25, 1949, and the couple soon moved to Farmington, where they spent most of their lives. Adrian worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Company as a budget specialist, and Yvonne worked for Dresser Industries. They were charter members of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class for more than 50 years. She sang in numerous trios and did drama at the church and at the civic theater in Farmington. They raised two sons, Timothy E. and Michael A. Copeland. Michael served as associate pastor and senior pastor at Emmanuel from 1993 to 2005. Yvonne's personality and beautiful smile made her a well-loved and treasured friend. They traveled with other couples from Emmanuel to Uganda and other places on mission trips. After Adrian retired from El Paso, Texas, the couple spent three years as volunteer missionaries with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Bophuthatswana, South Africa. They enjoyed their seven grandchildren, and Adrian gardened while Yvonne canned the produce. She was an avid reader. They moved to Granbury, Texas, in 2008, to be closer to their sons and their families. Adrian passed away in July 2011, and the family urged Yvonne to move where they could take care of her. But she stood firm and stayed in their home in Granbury, not wanting to leave the home she had shared with Adrian. Last November, she finally moved to Waco, Texas, where Mike and his family live, and she passed away in their home Saturday morning. Yvonne is survived by her sons, Timothy E. Copeland and wife Karen of Rowlett, Texas, and son, Michael A. Copeland and wife Julie of Waco; grandchildren, Rachel Copeland and Lexi Copeland of Rowlett, Cody, Collin, John and Meggie Copeland of Austin, Texas, and Erin Copeland of Waco; two sisters, Doris Stroud and husband A.J. of Centerton, Ark., and Becky Ramsey of Cortez, Colo.; and brother-in-law, Jim Copeland and wife Maybelle of Phoenix, Ariz. In lieu of a memorial service, the Copelands will get together over the holidays and reminisce about their precious mother and grandmother. Memorials may be sent to the China Spring First Baptist Church, 301 Illinois Ave., China Spring, TX 76633 or via their website at www.fbcchinaspring.org.
