Bio

Doris Annette Ivy Stroud was born on October 31, 1925 in Fairfield, TX. She passed from this temporal life on earth on May 6, 2021 in Dallas, TX. Doris was born to Cyrus David Ivy and Maggie Lillian Orand Ivy in Fairfield where she spent her early childhood before her family moved to Galena Park, TX. After she graduated from high school, she worked for Brown Shipyard and in 1943 was attending First Baptist Church of Galena Park where she met and fell in love with a young man, A.J. Stroud, who had recently enlisted in the U.S Navy. They married on April 28, 1945 at First Baptist Church of Galena Park while A.J. was on ten-day leave. Doris, along with A.J., raised their two sons in Texas City, TX. After she and A.J. retired they spent 34 wonderful years in a Victorian home that they built in Centerton, AK. They returned to Texas in 2017 choosing to settle in Wylie to be closer to family. She was a strong and vibrant woman who was deeply devoted to her family and to serving God through the church. A great passion in her life was teaching children. She taught and ultimately became Director of the Kindergarten/Pre-K of First Baptist Church of Texas City for 18 years. She began teaching children in Sunday School at age sixteen at First Baptist Church of Galena Park, and except for a few years continued to serve as director and teacher of, primarily, 5-year-old departments in First Baptist Church of Texas City and First Baptist Church of Centerton until 2014 when she resigned at the age of 88. For several years she voiced regret for having made the decision to resign because she missed it so much. She has been an active member of First Baptist Church of Wylie since 2017. She is preceded in death by parents C.D. and Lillian Ivy, sister Linda Bess who died in infancy, sister Yvonne Copeland, brothers-in-law, Adrian Copeland and Brad Ramsey. Doris is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 76 years, A. J. of Wylie, sister Rebecca Ramsey of Cortez, CO., sons Allen Stroud and wife Sandy of Sachse, Dr. Greg Stroud and wife Cindy of Lancaster, grandchildren Kristen Miller and husband Scott, Barrett Stroud and wife Tiffany, Stephanie Strobbe and husband Stephen, Katie Mills and husband Matt, and Maggie Stroud, great grandchildren Addison and Ethan Miller, Mason, Jackson, Grayson, and Hudson Stroud, Max Strobbe, and a great grandbaby Mills due in November. She is also survived by beloved sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. The family will host a visitation on Friday May 14, 2021 from 9:30 until 10:30 in the First Baptist - Wylie Sanctuary. The memorial service will follow the visitation beginning at 10:30 A.M.
