Bio

Adrian Eugene Copeland was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, July 14, 2011. He died at his home in Granbury, Texas, at the age of 83. Mr. Copeland was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Tioga, Texas. Adrian served in the U.S. Navy, mostly in Hawaii, in 1945-46. He and Yvonne Ivy were married Feb. 25, 1949, in Galena Park, Texas. The Copelands moved to Farmington in 1952, where Adrian worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company for 33 years. After his retirement in 1985, he enjoyed gardening and traveling. Adrian and Yvonne lived in South Africa two and a half years as volunteers in the Baptist International Mission in Johannesburg. He served as a deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Farmington, where he and Yvonne were charter members. They moved to Granbury in 2007 to be closer to their two sons and their families, including seven grandchildren. Adrian loved sports and as a younger man he loved playing softball for the Farmington El Paso Natural Gas "Gassers." He also loved snow skiing all over southwest Colorado. He began skiing with Yvonne on Coal Bank Pass near Silverton, Colo., before any ski areas were built and when skiers were shuttled to the top of the pass in vehicles. They also enjoyed fishing for trout and salmon at Vallecito Reservoir near Bayfield, Colo. Adrian is survived by his wife Yvonne; his brother, Jim and wife, Maybelle; sons, Tim, his wife, Karen, and their daughters, Rachel and Lexi; and Michael and his wife, Julie, and their children Cody, Collin, John, Meggie and Erin. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Acton Baptist Church, 3500 Fall Creek Hwy. in Granbury. The Rev. Michael A. Copeland will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of China Spring, Texas, where Michael is pastor. Published in Farmington Daily Times from July 16 to July 17, 2011
