Lightening Kills Mitchell Boy; Hail, Rain Hit Area Lightening killed a small boy in Mitchell County and set off a Howard County brush fire that destroyed an orchard south of Big Spring during damaging thunderstorms Saturday. Electrical storms, light hail and rain stretched over a big portion of West Texas as a widespread area of North Texas went under severe weather alert. Billy Mark Geron, 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Geron, who lives three miles southeast of Westbrook, was killed when he was struck by lightening Saturday afternoon nine miles west of Colorado City. The accident happened when Billy and his two brothers, Harold Joe, 13, and David, 9, went to a pasture where they lived to drive in some cows. The boys were walking about 15 feet apart when the lightening struck. Harold Joe was knocked down by the lightening bolt, but neither he nor David were injured. The youth was born March 25, 1957. Funeral arrangements are pending at Kiker and Son Funeral Home in Colorado City. Survivors are his parents; the two brothers; his sister, Margie, 3; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.N. Geron of Sweetwater; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. J.B. Young of Sweetwater.
