Noble Mead grew up in rural southwest Missouri with four brothers and a sister; twin brother, Norman, sister Nelia and brothers, W R, Jack and Oliver. Noble enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 and fought in the WWII South Pacific campaigns, including Saipan. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Noble married Lavaughn Files Johnson on October 21, 1944 in Missouri and soon moved to Northern California where they began a family. Together they had five children: Christine Elizabeth Mead, Noble Wayne Mead, Helen Louise Mead, John Edward Mead and Teresa May Mead. Noble began a successful roofing business, taught to him by his brother, Norman, who was in business at the time. Together the two brothers taught their younger brother, Oliver Mead, the roofing business and all three Mead brothers owned and operated independent roofing companies in California. Noble, also, taught his son, Noble Wayne Mead, who successfully, owned and operated his own roofing business as well.
