Mrs. Mary Pokorney, almost 95 years old and one of Valley county's oldest residents, passed away at 9: 00 a. m. Friday, Sept. 14 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Burson, after an illness of about a year. Funeral services were held at the Bohemian hall Sunday afternoon with Rev. Willard McCarthy In charge and interment was in the Bohemian National cemetery here, Born in Moravia, Nov. 8, 1839, the deceased was united in marriage to John Pokorney in 1859 and with him came to the United States sixty years ago. To them were born ten children,of whom four-Peter Julia, Josie and Frank preceded their mother in death. Left to mourn are three sons and three daughters. They are Anton Pokorney, Ord, Charles and John Pokorney, Burwell, Mrs. George Burson and Mrs. Frank Novak, Comstock, and Mrs. Mary Sibal, Ogallala. Mr. Pokorney passed away in 1918. For the past forty-three years the Pokorney family has lived in Valley county and here most of the children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Pokorney were hard-working, thrifty farmer folk, loved and respected in the community.. At the funeral services Sunday Anton Bartunek made remarks in Bohemian, lauding Mrs. Pokorney highly as an influence for good throughout her long and useful life. A quartet composed of Madams Mark Tolen and E. O. Carlson, Messrs. Ed Mouer and J. R. Stoltz sang, with Mrs. Marion Cushing at the piano. Pall-bearers were Don Carre, George Baker, Roy Nightengale, George Wilson, Jack Van Cleave and Frank Novak. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Sep 20 1934
