Married first, 1890s, Mary Kasper Married second, Oct 7 1933, Frances Fajmon Vasicek (1885 NE-1979 WA; first husb, Petr Vasicek-106640568) ---------------------------------------- John Pokorney, Burwell, Dies in Omaha Hospital Funeral Services Were Held Yesterday for Former Ord, Burwell Blacksmith In the passing of John Pokorney at University hospital in Omaha Saturday there was removed from the scene a blacksmith of the old school, who worked at this trade in Ord for many years and twenty years in Burwell before retiring from the job to the farm in 1933. He was born in Bohemia, May 28, 1874, and came to the United States with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pokorney, that same year. He lived in Cherry county as a small boy, later living in Comstock, Ord and Burwell, moving to a farm northeast of Ord 8 years ago. Mr. Pokorney was married in the nineties. Six children were born to them. John and Fred dying in infancy. The living children are: Mrs. Emma Nightingale, Mrs. Rose Baker, Mrs. Mary Cain and Ed all of Burwell. His first wife died February, 1930, and Oct. 7, 1933, he married Mrs. Frances Vasicek, who survives him. Others surviving are two brothers, Anton of Ord and Charles of Burwell; three sisters, Mrs. George Burson and Mrs. Frank Novak of Ord and Mrs. Jim Sibal of Ogallala; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; also seven step children living in Washington state. Some little time ago Mr. Pokorney's health began to fail, and he was sent to the University hospital in Omaha six weeks ago in the hope of bettering his condition. He grew steadily worse until the end came at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services, with Rev. Clifford Snyder of the Christian church in charge, were held yesterday from the Pearson-Anderson chapel at 2:30 p.m. A group of old friends and neighbors from Burwell acted as pall bearers. Mrs. Mark Tolen and Mrs. C.M. Davis sang, with Mrs. Robert Noll at the chapel organ. Burial was made at the Ord cemetery. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Apr 9 1942, Pg 1, Col 1
