Herman C. Prince Sr. , 76, of New Berlin, died at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John's Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1912 in Parnell, Ky., the son of Edd and Tona Parmeli [sic?] Prince. He married Lura Manning in 1946. Mr. Prince was a member of the DAV Hall Hagler Post 15, a former police chief of New Berlin; served with the 101st Armored Division during World War II in Italy, North and South Africa, and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Obie and Fred Prince; and three sisters, Gertrude Pratt, Pearl Prince and Eileen Pace. Surviving are his wife, Lura; three sons, Herman Jr., of Springfield; Bill and Ronald, both of New Berlin; four daughters, Bonita Prince, Sheila Prince and Jan Prince, all of Springfield; and Rita Martin, of Laguna Hills, Calif.; five grandchildren; one brother, Fred Prince, of Springfield; one sister, Louise Bryant, of Sherman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were at McCullough Funeral Home, New Berlin. Burial was in Woodwreath Cemetery.
