Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Dec. 8, 1987 Spurgeon L. Pryor, 69, a retired master sergeant and civilian employee at Fort Ord, died Sunday at Community Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Pryor, who was a 21-year resident of Seaside, was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Tinnie, N.M. He retired from the Army in 1966 after a 23-year career that included service in World War II and Korea. He was later a maintenance engineer at the Post Exchange at Fort Ord. His wife, Maria, died in May 1986. Mr. Pryor is survived by three sons, James and William of Seaside, and Richard of San Francisco; a brother, John of Roswell, N.M.; three sisters, Nell Carson, Helen Lenning, and Ruth Stockard,all of Roswell; and by three grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Chapel of Seaside are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Seaside. Burial with military honors will follow at Mission Memorial Park.
