ORD — Leo H. Thomsen, 70, of Ord died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Valley County Hospital in Ord. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Thomsen was born Feb. 24, 1932, at Ord to Harvey and Ruth (Covert) Thomsen. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Carol, and three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyl and Dave Hofpar of Ulysses, Birdie and John Augustyn of Kearney and Jolene and Roger Rathje of Shelby. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Chris, Jackie and Jasper Augustyn, Cameo, Ashley, Lindsey and Tara Hofpar, and Jenna and Jordan Rathje. He attended Springdale Country School through the eighth grade and then attended Ord High School, graduating in 1950. On Dec. 26, 1959, he married Carol Rux at Grand Island. Mr. Thomsen spent his entire life east of Ord in the Springdale Township of Valley County where he farmed. He also worked for Cass Construction and drove a semi-truck for Vic Kerchal and Norris Jones. He belonged to the Crime Stoppers. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed baseball, trapshooting, camping, boating, woodworking and cabinetry. He bowled, played cards and belonged to a Pinochle club. He was preceded in death by his parents.
