Bio

Mary Pauline Fowler was born in Walker County Alabama near Sipsey on October the 7th 1928 to Charles and Ada Naomi Hanvey Hight. She was given the Nick name "Pete" and was called by that name by family and friends all her life. She grew up in a coal mine area called Sloss and later an area known as Hull. She married Cecil Vernon Fowler, Known as "CV", in Walker County on February 25th, 1950. CV was in the Army Air Corps and they moved first to the state of Washington and then to California. Her first child, Ronald, was born while they were in California. She stayed with her parents, Charles M and Naomi Hight, while CV served during the Korean War. They then moved to an assignment to Mcgee Tyson Air Force base near Maryville Tennessee and the second child, Gail, and the third child, Dennis, was born. They then moved to Indiana, Bunker Hill Air Force base where the last child, Randy, was born. CVs last duty assignment before his retirement was for sixteen months in England. During that time Pete cared for the four children and maintained a household in Jasper Alabama. After CVs retirement they purchased a home near Arab, Alabama where Pete lived until her death. Her husband passed away in 1997. Pete drove a school bus for many years after moving to Arab. She was very interested in all types of crafts. Some of the first pieces she created were small chairs and tables made from tin cans. She then began to create items with ceramics and started training herself to do oil and water color paintings. Over the time she was active in painting, she sold many of her paintings by displaying them in stores and businesses where they were probably distributed all over the South East. She then, by request from individuals, began giving art classes in her home and gave many individuals instruction on oil and water color painting. She created ceramics, dolls, doll clothes, painted scenes on everyday objects such as sawblades, furniture, Musical instruments and many other things. She later became interest in dancing and spent time at the local community center learning to dance and attending dancing events. She was overly blessed with artistic talents and creative skills. Mrs. Fowler passed away on Friday Aug. 28, 2015, at her home in Arab. Funeral Service will be Tues. Sept. 1, 2015, at 2 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Brookwood Cemetery.
