From the "History of Wayne County, Miss. Churches & Cemetery Records, 1800's - 1915", written by: H.H. Daniel of Bay Springs, Mississippi. (Boyles Chapel Methodist Church) In 1890's Joe Boyles gave three acres of land in the Whistler Community to be used as follows. One acre for the Methodist church, one acre for the cemetery and one for a school. The school was built first, beginning in 1900. The Methodist Church held service in the school until 1901, when the church was built. The church was named in honor of Joe Boyles. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Son of James M. Boyles and Min Crow. Husband of Margie Ann Langley and Kitsey Ann Pitts. Joe Thomas Boyles served in the C.S.A. Pvt., Co E, 3rd Battalion, Mississippi Infantry (State Troops)
