Bio
Morris Eugene Joy, 68, passed away Aug. 2, 2015, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. Morris was born on Sept. 9, 1946, to Vernon and Sophia Morrison Joy in Arnold. He was raised in the Arnold area. He attended school at the Stone school west of Arnold for two years, then attended Logan District 4 School through March 1957. He completed elementary and high school in Arnold, graduating in 1964. Following graduation, he attended Grand Island School of Business for one year, receiving a degree in accounting. In February 1966, Morris joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam and Japan, where he received a Bronze Star. Upon his discharge from the Navy in September 1970, he returned to Arnold, where he worked for several farmers and the village of Arnold for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 130 and VFW Post 6157. Over the years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Dennis Wing. Morris is survived by two sisters, Doris (Dean) Swanson, of North Platte, and Carol Wing, of Grand Island; two brothers, Calvin Joy, of Arnold, and Larry (Gloria) Joy, of York; four nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; five great-nephews; and many cousins and friends. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Arnold Cemetery with the Rev. Irving Jennings officiating. Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
