Lumir "L.A." Holecek, 67, of Elm Mott, passed away peacefully Monday at his residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS con-celebrating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. L.A. was born in West, Texas, the youngest son of Jerry and Rose Holecek. He attended school in West and joined the U.S. Navy with his good buddy, Clarence Matus, when he was sixteen. On Dec. 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Veronica (Nordgren) Holecek in West. L.A. was a carpenter, who inherited the trade from his dad, uncles, and older brothers. He spread his talents mainly in the West area, but also spent some time remodeling churches for L.L. Sams and Sons, working all across the East Coast. He shared his talents with his two sons and nephews, as well as their friends whom he employed. L.A. was always good for a story and many friends and family looked forward to the times when they could gather around for some interesting conversation. L.A. enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attending family gatherings. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and entertaining them. He also enjoyed taking them to the zoo and going to the store with them to purchase scratch off tickets. His parents and his brother, Henry Holecek, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Veronica (Bunny) Holecek, of Elm Mott; sons, Jimmy Holecek, of Elm Mott and Greg Holecek and wife, Christine, of West; daughters, Leslie Andrews and husband, Doug, of Elm Mott, and Michele Powers and husband, Brian, of Waco; grandchildren, Amy Holecek, Kourtney Powers, Noah Powers, Andy Bajer, Kyndall Holecek, Kole Holecek, and Lindsey Andrews; brother, Larry Holecek and wife, Mollie; sisters, Marcella George and husband, James, Mary Ann Hykel and husband, Harry Lee, and Milada Mazanec; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, 4830 Lakewood Drive, Suite 5, Waco, Texas 76710, St. Mary's Parish Center, or The Cameron Park Zoo. WT: 7/12/2006...R
