Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, April 22, 1993; pg. 1 FORMER DEWEESE RESIDENT DIES Clement F. "Clem" Skalka, 80, of Hastings died April 15, 1993 at his home. Funeral services were Monday, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic church (sic) in Hastings with the Rev. Garold Gabel officiating. Burial with military rites was in Parkview cemetery (sic) in Hastings. Mr. Skalka was born January 22, 1913 in Deweese. He attended Pleasant Hill elementary school in Deweese and graduated from Deweese High School. He attended Kearney State College and on May 18, 1938 he married Ida Hostler. He worked at the Hastings Regional Center for 46 years and also farmed in the Deweese area from 1950-1964. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Judy Kay Johnson of Akeley, Minn., Mary Kathryn Walker of Webster City, Iowa and Barbara Ann Brouard of San Diego, Cal.; one sister, Kathryn McAuliff of Hastings and two grandchildren.
