Bio
Robert William "Bob" Woolery, 75, passed from this life on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid, of which he was a member. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at the church, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Dallas Center. Bob was born on Nov. 14, 1936 in Maryville, Mo. to Henry William and Ruth Wilma (Sergent) Woolery. In 1953, he joined the United States Army and retired from the army in 1973. On Aug. 3, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to Marcella Messner in Maryville, and their marriage was blessed with four children. Bob and Marcella moved to Madrid in April of 1973, where they made their home. Bob had attended DMACC, earning his Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Degree in 1974. He was formerly employed with Pickell Construction for three years, until Bob became disabled. In 1978, he obtained his Pilot's license. Bob later graduated again from DMACC, earning his Bookkeeping and Accounting Degree in 1983. He enjoyed building and flying experimental aircraft. Bob was former owner and bookkeeper of the Boone Airport in Boone. Bob was a lifetime member of the Madrid V.F.W. Post 5060; and a member of Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owner and Pilot's Association, and Boone Area Pilot's Association. Bob was preceded into eternal life by his parents; wife of nearly 45 years, Marcella Woolery; two brothers; two sisters; and one son on Dec. 31, 2011, Michael Woolery. The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to: St. Malachy's Catholic Church.
