Fairfield resident, Edward J. Lipovsky, 94, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Mary Lanning Heathcare, Hastings, Nebraska. Rosary will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, Nebraska with Father Thomas Bush officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery. Edward was born June 24, 1920 to John & Lillian (Wolfe) Lipovsky at Spring Ranch, Nebraska. He attended Prairie Rose School until eighth grade then Deweese High School from 1935 to 1936, and then he attended Lawrence High School and graduated in 1938. After graduating high school, he worked on the family farm. On October 4, 1945, Edward married Lorene M. Hajny at the Assumption Church in Deweese. They farmed on the Little Blue River and fed cattle for 40 years. He served on the St. Martin’s Church Board for 20 years until it closed. Edward was on the Board at the Farmers Union Co-op at Fairfield and the Clay Center Co-op. He was on the Board of Directors of the Lawrence State Bank for 20 years. He was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council # 1906 Lawrence, 4th Degree member Knights of Columbus Bishop Casey Assembly # 599 Hebron. Edward was a past member of the Eagles Club in Hastings, a past member of the Elks of Superior, and a past member of the Platt Dusch of Grand Island. He was awarded the Clay County Feed of the Year Award in 1991. In 1984, Edward and Lorene moved to Fairfield. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, John & Lillian Lipovsky; sisters, Elsie Karmazin and Marie Sekora; and grandsons, Kyle and Jeremy Lipovsky-Smith.
