Bio

Funeral Mass for Frances Lux, 85, Valley City, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Rev. Len Burckhard, celebrant. A prayer service is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Peterson-Schuldt Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lady of Sorrow Cemetery at Verona, N.D. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church Friday. There will also be visitation at the Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church in Verona from about noon until 12:45 p.m. A committal service is at the cemetery at about 1 p.m. Frances Barta was born April 11, 1908, at Abbey, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Frances (Abraham) Barta. She moved with her family at the age of 12 to Verona, where she grew up and attended school. She married Melvin W. Lux August 4, 1926, at Verona. The couple farmed there until 1966, when they retired and moved to Valley City. Mr. Lux died August 16, 1978. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, the Verona Band Mothers and the Christian Mothers of St. Ralphaels Catholic Church in Verona. She is survived by four sons, Melvin, Portland, Ore.; Francis, Craig, Colo.; Charles and Lawrence, Rock Springs, Wyo.; five daughters, Sister Mary Frances, Gurnsey, England; Leona (Mrs. James) Marshall, Oriska; Mary Ann (Mrs. William) Goddard, Plymouth, Minn.; Theresa (Mrs. James) Fields, Valley City, and Margaret (Mrs. Neil) Bohnsack, Williams, Ariz.; a brother, Louis Barta, LaMoure; 32 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson. Published in the Valley City Times Record, Valley City, North Dakota, July 22, 1993.
