Henry came to Texas, from Montgomery Co, IL, in 1846. He attendedMcKenzie College at Clarksville, TX. In April 1861, He enlistedin Co. K, 9th Texas Cavalry, at Blackjack Grove (now, Cumby).According to war records, Henry F. Young traveled 90 miles forinduction. The value of his horse was $120 and other equipment valued at $20.He was posted to Camp Reeves in 1861, and elected 3rd Lt. Mar 15, 1863. Lt. Henry F. Young was captured at Kinard's Bridge, Apr 2, 1863.As a POW, he was taken to Franklin, Tennessee. On Apr 13, 1863,he was sent to Fort Delaware by way of Nashville. On June 20, 1863 he was promoted to 2/Lt. He held the rank untilparoled at Jackson, MS, May 13, 1865. (Additional information courtesy of ( [email protected] )
