Samuel was the son of James and Perminty Jane Elzy Thompson. He was the father of Mary Ella Thompson Reed, Sophronie Thompson Slater, Fannie Thompson Smith,Theodosia and Daniel Spencer Rockey, Walter and Mamie Thompson, Floyd and Gladys Speed Thompson.
