Bio

Carl Starrett Funeral services for Carl Starrett, 93, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Reilly Springs Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Starrett died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 18, 1899, in Hopkins County to Jim and Jimmie Spinks Starrett. He married Eula Florence Ponder on Nov. 27, 1921, in Hopkins County. She preceded him in death in 1989. Mr. Starrett was a retired farmer and city of Sulphur Springs employee. He was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include three sons, Carl J. Starrett of Lenox, Mass., Frank Starrett of Yantis and Benny Starrett of Mesquite; two daughters, Betty Story of Dallas and Melba Vaughan of Arlington; one brother, Freeman Starrett of Yantis; two sisters, Christine Pickett of Dallas and Ola Lee Heard of Yantis; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
