HEREFORD - R.L. Blakely, 72, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Monsignor Orville Blum officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Blakely was born in Snyder and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Blakely Oil and Gas for more than 31 years. He was a member and past president of Hereford Kiwanis Club and a member of the Hereford Booster Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. He married Opal McCormick in 1950 at Snyder. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ricky Blakely of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Lisa Artho of Hereford; a brother, Delbert Blakely of California; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to St. Anthony's School Endowment Fund.
