Bio
Elizabeth Martin was the daughter of Thomas and Hester Martin of Anderson District, South Carolina. She married James Wilbanks about 1839. They migrated to the Sand Mountain region of Alabama about 1855. Later in life she was called Aunt Betty or Aunt Betsy. The Wilbanks family was very involved with Macedonia Baptist Church #2 with Shadrack, and later James and Elizabeth's son Jacob B., being licensed ministers of this church, while other Wilbanks family members, including James, are found acting as Deacons and other officers and representatives over the years. Family tradition states that many of the Wilbanks family are buried in this cemetery. Elder members of the family, who have since passed away in the 1980s and 1990s, had shown some of the younger members a row of 12 white-washed stones behind the church that ended with a barely legible stone marked TM Wilbanks (shown). This row of stones were identified to be varied members of the Wilbanks family. Today that row of stones ends with the new marker of Shadrack Wilbanks.
