Bio

Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent October 1982 Francis L. Jakubowski, 56, of 2028 Grand Island Ave. died Monday night at home. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald O'Brien will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament church. Memorials are suggested to the church of St. Francis Hospice program. Mr. Jakubowski was born on Nov. 5, 1925, at Ashton to Max and Pauline Wardyn Jakubowski. He grew up and received his education at Loup City and later farmed with his father. He married Marie Schnase in 1952 at St. Ann's Church in Omaha. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served until 1954. After his return he farmed until 1966. In 1966 the family moved to Grand Island where he was employed by Sperry New Holland as a planner. Ill health forced his retirement earlier this year. Mr. Jakubowski was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish where he served as a lector and a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Cursillo Knights of Columbus and was president of the TPA Insurance Group. Survivors include his widow; three sons, Bruce of Lincoln and James and Bradley, both of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. John (Sharon) Owen of North Platte and Joyce of Lincoln; a brother, Ronald Jakubowski of Grand Island; two sisters, Luella Slauter of Grand Island and Maxine Higgs of Kansas City, Mo., and a grandchild, John Paul Owen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
