Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent January 1977 Max F. Jakubowski, 81, of 1818 W. Division died Thursday evening in a local hospital. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Robert Foster officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home, with the recitation of a rosary at 7:30. Mr. Jukubowski was born March 16, 1896, in Long Island, Kan., to Joseph and Martha Novwarska (sic) Jakubowski. The family moved to Ashland, where he grew up. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. On Feb. 1, 1922, he married Pauoline Wardyn in Ashton. He farmed in the Ashton and Ravenna area until he retired in 1971 and moved to Grand Island. Mrs. Jakubowski died in 1970. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, World War I Barracks No. 1260 of the Grand Island V.F.W. and the Platt-Duetsche Society. Survivors include two sons, Francis and Paul R. Jakubowski, both of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Luella) Slauter of Grand Island and Mrs. Maxine Higgs of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Ms. Hadie Wroblewski of Loup City, Mrs. Sophia Kurzsecter of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Valeria Umidon of St. Louis, Mo., 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
