Vernon D. "Santa Claus" Woodall, 79, of Amarillo died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Max Beggs officiating. Mr. Woodall was born April 3, 1930, in Memphis to Ida and Virgil Woodall. He had owned and operated V & V Grocery Store. He had worked for Panhandle Fruit and retired from Coca-Cola. He later retired from the city of Amarillo sanitation department. He married Velma Walker on June 16, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Cox and staff for their kindness. Survivors include his wife, Velma Woodall; a daughter, LaJeana Knight and husband Bill of Amarillo; a son, Richard Woodall of Amarillo; four sisters, Lorene Plaster and Maxine Davis, both of Amarillo, Florene Aleto of Oklahoma City and Oleta Sparks of Whitesboro; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.
