KEARNEY — Everett “Jim” Schwartz, 67, of Kearney died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at CHI Health Good Samaritan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Eric Lesher officiating. Burial will be at 1 pm. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. He was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Grand Island to Everett W. and Marian (McLellan) Schwartz. He grew up in Cairo and received his education at Lincoln School of Commerce. On April 25, 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Army on Jan. 24, 1970. He married Deanna F. (Cecil) Schwartz in North Platte, after which the couple lived in North Platte where he worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. After retirement, they moved to Kearney where he resided until his death. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis and First Lutheran Church. He was actively involved in volunteering activities at Rowe Sanctuary near Minden. He was an avid Husker football fan and attended every home football game with his wife. His hobbies and interests included Master Gardening, fishing, working at the family farm and spending countless hours with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deanna; children and spouses, Justin and Stacy Schwartz of Kearney and Jennifer and Justin Tallmon of Glenwood, Iowa; mother, Marian Schwartz of Grand Island; sister, Connie Gannon of Grand Island; and grandsons, Kamden, Ashden and Hayden Schwartz and Jonathan and Jace Tallmon. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett W. Schwartz of Grand Island.
