Catherine Utsey is the daughter of John Jacob Utsey born 1790 in SC and died in 1870's in Choctaw County, Alabama and his wife Mary Govan born about 1800 in SC and died in 1860's in Alabama. Catherine was a sibling in a family of 8 children, 4 males and 4 females. Catherine and Lafayette Columbus Herring were married 19 October 1854 in Barbour County, Alabama. It's not known when Catherine died, but her husband went to serve in the Civil War by 1862 and left his family in care of extended family nearby.
