Bio

B.J. (Ben) O’Connor, 81, of 729 North Ninth Street, who retired from the postal service in 1933 after nearly 40 years service as a city carrier, died last night at the Holy Family Hospital. He had been ill five months. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mittnacht-Kollath funeral home and at 9 o’clock at the Sacred Heart Church. There will be solemn requiem high mass with the Rev. L.M. Schorn as celebrant, the Rev. George Beth of Mishicot, cousin of the deceased as deacon and the Rev. Raymond Nowak, sub-deacon. Mr. O’Connor was born in this city in 1867, the son of the late Mr.and Mrs. Richard O’Connor. He was city carrier for 38 years, entering the service as a substitute carrier in 1895, went on a regular route in 1902 and continued until he reached the 65 years retirement age in 1933. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Holy Name Society and the Letter Carriers Association until his retirement. Mr. O’Connor married Miss Catherine Scherer of Two Rivers in 1905. She survives with four sons, Francis and Robert of this city, Richard of Milwaukee and Staff Sgt. John O’Connor with the air corps at El Paso, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Bartelme and Mrs. John C. Bull of this city and Mrs. Eugene Polinsky of Chicago and 14 grandchildren.
